A Hollywood wax, is a type of hair removal treatment that involves the removal of all pubic hair in the genital area, including the front, back, and everything in between. It's a popular choice for individuals who prefer a completely smooth and hair-free look.
To prepare for a Hollywood wax treatment, here are some general guidelines to follow:
1. Hair length: The hair in the treatment area should ideally be about 1/4 inch (0.6 cm) long. This allows the wax to grip the hair effectively for efficient removal. If the hair is too short, the wax may not be able to grab it properly, and if it's too long, it may cause more discomfort during the procedure.
2. Exfoliate: Gently exfoliate the area a day or two before your appointment. This helps remove any dead skin cells and allows for better wax adhesion, resulting in a smoother waxing experience.
3. Hygiene: Ensure that the treatment area is clean and hygienic before your appointment. Taking a shower or bath beforehand is recommended. Your therapist will provide baby wipes to use before the treatment.
4. Pain management: If you're concerned about pain during the treatment, you may take an over-the-counter pain reliever, such as ibuprofen, 45 minutes to an hour before your appointment. This can help reduce discomfort.
5. Clothing: Wear loose, comfortable clothing to your appointment. Tight clothing can cause irritation or chafing after the waxing treatment. Wear old underwear as a small amount of wax may be stuck to your skin and then transfer to your underwear.
6. Inform your Beauty Therapist: If you have any specific concerns, skin sensitivities, or medical conditions, it's important to inform your esthetician beforehand. They can provide guidance and ensure the best possible experience for you.
At Beauty Essence, London we use hot wax in all Hollywood treatments. Hot wax is designed to shrink-wrap around the hair, removing it from the root without sticking to the skin. It is applied by being spread along the skin and is removed when it's dried for a few seconds. We will use some strip/cool wax to remove the finer hairs.
Remember that your therapist will have seen all types of bodies and we are all the same with slight differences. There's no need to feel self-conscious. I personally have waxed thousands of bikinis, so you're always in safe hands at Beauty Essence. Pre-pandemic our team were waxing over 7,000 areas a year so believe me, we have plenty of experience.
