Say Goodbye to Spider Veins: A Guide to Microsclerotherapy

Updated: Dec 7, 2023

Microsclerotherapy is a medical procedure used to treat spider veins and small varicose veins, primarily in the legs. Spider veins are tiny, dilated blood vessels that appear as red, blue, or purple lines on the surface of the skin, and they are often considered a cosmetic concern. Varicose veins, on the other hand, are larger, twisted veins that may cause discomfort and are typically treated through other methods.

Here's how micro sclerotherapy works:

1. Assessment: Before the procedure, a qualified professional will assess the veins to determine their size, location, and the extent of the problem.

2. Preparation: The client is asked to wear loose-fitting clothing and avoid using lotions or oils on their legs before the procedure.

3. Procedure: During micro sclerotherapy, a very fine needle is used to inject a special sclerosing solution directly into the spider veins. This solution irritates the lining of the veins, causing them to collapse and eventually be reabsorbed by the body.

4. Compression: After the injections, compression stockings or leggings are recommended to wear on the treated area for 2 weeks. This helps to maintain pressure on the treated veins, preventing blood from flowing back into them and promoting the closure of the veins.

5. Recovery: Most patients can resume their normal activities shortly after the procedure. However, it may take several weeks to see the full results, as the treated veins gradually fade and disappear.

6. Walking: is recommended for 1 hour or more post-treatment.

Microsclerotherapy is a minimally invasive and relatively safe procedure with a low risk of complications. It is typically performed in a clinic or beauty salon. Multiple sessions will be required to achieve the desired cosmetic results, especially if there are many spider veins to treat.

It's important to note that micro sclerotherapy is primarily used for cosmetic purposes to improve the appearance of the legs. It is not used to treat larger varicose veins or underlying venous insufficiency. If you're considering micro sclerotherapy please get in touch to book a consultation at Beauty Essence:
